Case Study: Ahmed’s Story

Help a Child Recover, Learn and Rebuild Hope

Ahmed is an 11-year-old Palestinian child from Gaza. Before the war, he lived with his family and was continuing his education like many children his age. But after the escalation of violence, his family were forced to flee their home because of intense bombardment and the collapse of basic living conditions.

They moved south in search of safety and later took shelter in a school with many other displaced families. Tragically, the school was later hit, causing many deaths and serious injuries.

Ahmed was severely injured by shrapnel and required emergency medical treatment. His mother was also seriously injured, and his father sadly passed away shortly after the attack. Since then, Ahmed and his mother have been trying to recover while living in extremely difficult circumstances.

Ahmed is now living in Egypt with his mother, who is his main guardian. They are currently sharing accommodation with several other families and rely on charitable support to meet their basic needs.

Despite everything he has experienced, Ahmed continues to study. He is attending an education centre and also receives online learning support. He enjoys playing football and dreams of becoming a firefighter when he grows up.

Ahmed is still in need of ongoing support for medicine, food, counselling, education and clothing. He has been assessed as a very high-risk child due to his injuries, the loss of his father, displacement and the family’s current financial hardship.
